Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent pick No. 197 on Jaylen Wright, a name most had 114 spots down the list. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They banked enough surplus on Clark to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Troy Fautanu at pick No. 41 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 51; a little patience would have been rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Javon Bullard at the 83rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
A conviction pick on Braelon Allen at pick 92 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in Round 4, Pick 19, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Foster. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylen Wright. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brevyn Spann-Ford in slot 217 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a wide receiver like De'Corian Clark reach No. 219 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Eric Gentry in the 240th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
