Green Bay Packers

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Packers to a D-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. De'Corian Clark at slot 204 is 64 spots clear of where he belonged. Put together, it is a D-.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 17
In the 17th pick they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.25 · Pick 25 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 21
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chop Robinson in the 25th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 56
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 102
The board had cheaper options than Audric Estime at pick No. 88, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 109
Braelon Allen at slot 91 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 110
A clean, defensible pick in the 114th overall pick with a little surplus value in Cole Bishop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 136
Theo Johnson at Round 4, Pick 27 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 134
By-the-book stuff, Nehemiah Pritchett at the 131st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 162
Trevor Keegan at No. 134 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Nick Gargiulo · C · rank 202
They reached a country mile for Nick Gargiulo at pick No. 168, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 268
De'Corian Clark at pick 204 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 224
Frank Gore Jr. at slot 216 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Zion Logue · DL · rank 290
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zion Logue this early at the Round 7 slot. The roster fit checks out.
