Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Joe Milton III at No. 169 is 47 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It bottoms out at a F.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Means value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean in Round 1, Pick 16 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
In pick No. 25 they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Payton Wilson at slot 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Fair-plus on Ja'Lynn Polk, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in the 88th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Calen Bullock in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 7 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Foster at slot 126, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christian Jones at the 150th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Mason McCormick in No. 166, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
James Williams at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
