The Packers did not so much draft Tyreak Sapp as overpay for him, 146 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Smith pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Pick-by-Pick
Benjamin Morrison at the 56th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tez Johnson in pick 121 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyreak Sapp. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tosh Baker well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Sebastian Castro at Round 6, Pick 14 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jeffrey Bassa in the 194th overall pick, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Garrett Dellinger in the 237th pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A running back of that caliber at the 245th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Jack Kiser still on the board at pick 250. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
