The curious call sets the tone. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still glaring, the Packers used the Round 4 slot on James Williams, a safety they were not exactly short of.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Adding Juwan Johnson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Javon Bullard at slot 13 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Troy Fautanu at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
T.J. Tampa in No. 43 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Ruke Orhorhoro at pick 75, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in the 82nd pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Tommy Eichenberg in Round 4, Pick 11, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
