Somebody in the 75th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Quinyon Mitchell, the No. 53 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
It is not that Bishop is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Every board in the league had Bishop lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a disruptive interior force. A clean fit for the roster.
Jordan Morgan in pick No. 39 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Troy Fautanu in the 43rd overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Quinyon Mitchell all the way to No. 75, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Denzel Burke at pick 82 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Jaden Hicks at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
A curious use of slot 135. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Cole Bishop did not.
