Green Bay Packers

Grand theft in pick No. 125: the Packers steal Hart and grade out a B.

Whoever sat across the table from the Packers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.

The Hart pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Packers indulged a want in Bishop while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Bishop pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 16
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
Amarius Mims in slot 39 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 73
Kamren Kinchens in the 59th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 89
The board had cheaper options than Christian Haynes at No. 75, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · D.J. James · CB · rank 77
D.J. James at the 82nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 100
They went early on Will Shipley in Round 3, Pick 29, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 108
Tommy Eichenberg at No. 111 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Seth McLaughlin · C · rank 122
They liked Seth McLaughlin enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 104
Cam Hart in pick No. 125 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 154
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cole Bishop adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
