The needs board said one thing and the Packers did another, using Round 4, Pick 35 on Jaden Hicks while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots waited.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Barton steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Jer'Zhan Newton at Round 1, Pick 11 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Morgan in slot 44 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Rod Moore in the 75th overall pick, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reasonable price with a little left over, D.J. James in No. 84. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 111 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the 135th pick on Jaden Hicks, a safety they were not short of.
