The trade table was a mismatch, and the Packers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Brade pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. The veteran additions, Diontae Johnson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
The Morgan reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Nubin at pick 16 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid up for Jordan Morgan at Round 2, Pick 7 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for T.J. Tampa in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Mahogany at the 80th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, TreVeyon Henderson went about where he belonged in pick No. 82. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Beau Brade adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tate Ratledge. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take James Williams, a safety that was not the priority.
Justin Rogers at pick 135 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
