The Packers torched the value chart for Marist Liufau, taking him 40 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. With edge rusher, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach for Junior Colson in the 41st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Zach Frazier in the 58th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Cam Hart at pick No. 88 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Zak Zinter in slot 91, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Marist Liufau at linebacker with edge rusher, running back and other spots open.
They jumped the gun on Isaiah Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 27 is fair value, right on his grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A conviction pick on Dominique Hampton at the 219th pick that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kalen DeLoach at the 245th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A real head-scratcher, Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 255 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
