Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Keagen Trost, the No. 182 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 20. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Lawrence reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A wild overpay on Malachi Lawrence in pick 52, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They liked Treydan Stukes enough to skip the value, taking him in the 84th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Gracen Halton in the 120th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Charles Demmings in slot 160 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Keagen Trost in Round 6, Pick 20 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Kaden Wetjen was the payoff at No. 236. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Josh Cuevas is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
