You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Zion Tupuola-Fetui at Round 4, Pick 35, roughly 34 spots before his name belonged.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Byron Murphy II. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They did well to land Tyler Guyton in pick 43, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Blake Corum at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Junior Colson at par in Round 3, Pick 10, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Fair-plus on Mike Sainristil, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Malik Washington in Round 4, Pick 25, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Taulia Tagovailoa in pick 203 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Darius Muasau at No. 217 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Isaiah Williams at pick No. 219 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on McKade Mettauer at the 246th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
