Somebody in pick No. 65 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Panthers sat still while Emeka Egbuka, the No. 25 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Reaching for Jacobs left real value on the table behind him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Emeka Egbuka at No. 65 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Cooper DeJean in pick 101 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kiran Amegadjie at slot 138 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Curtis Jacobs at the 168th pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Darius Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Kamal Hadden at Round 7, Pick 2, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
