The Chiefs torched the value chart for Garrett Dellinger, taking him 35 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

The Moore pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still on the board. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

On the needs board they went 2 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Tyler Booker · OG · rank 38
In pick 31 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 69
No edge and no loss on Andrew Mukuba in the 63rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Ozzy Trapilo · OT · rank 92
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ozzy Trapilo in No. 66, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Malachi Moore · S · rank 95
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Malachi Moore adds a safety and leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots untouched.
R4.31 · Pick 132 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 143
Oronde Gadsden II at slot 132 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.38 · Pick 256 · Garrett Dellinger · OG · rank 291
A wild overpay on Garrett Dellinger in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
