The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Khristian Boyd, the No. 178 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Rattler has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Ladd McConkey at pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Amarius Mims at slot 56 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Cooper DeJean at No. 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Ja'Tavion Sanders was still sitting there in the 87th overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Spencer Rattler at the 103rd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Mason McCormick in Round 6, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Layden Robinson at pick No. 193 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Khristian Boyd still on the board at No. 231. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
