The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The Byrd pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.
Getting Coleman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Keon Coleman in slot 50, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Michael Hall Jr. at the 68th overall pick, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Matt Goncalves at No. 103 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in pick 137: Johnny Wilson for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Drake Nugent in the 193rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Solomon Byrd at pick No. 231, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
