The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Oladapo. The Wilson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
In pick 27 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Braden Fiske in the 34th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Patrick Paul in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Johnny Wilson in pick No. 103, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Eboigbe a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Kitan Oladapo at No. 180 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at the 193rd overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach on Brevyn Spann-Ford in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
