The Patriots spent real capital to be 27 picks early on Gabe Hall, and the board is going to hold them to it.
That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Landing Suamataia that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 3rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Kingsley Suamataia for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Johnny Wilson in pick 103, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Jarrian Jones at par in the 137th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jordan Travis in pick No. 180 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Gabe Hall in the 193rd pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 231st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
