The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The Taylor reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Graham Barton in slot 34, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Xavier Legette in the 41st overall pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nothing to complain about; Payton Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Ruke Orhorhoro at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Johnny Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Jarrian Jones in pick 137, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Drake Nugent at Round 6, Pick 5 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They jumped the gun on Jared Wiley, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Trey Taylor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
