The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Landing Oladapo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Wilson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at pick No. 3, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Amarius Mims was the payoff at No. 34. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Devontez Walker at par in slot 68, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Johnny Wilson at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
McKinnley Jackson slid further than he should have, and pick 137 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at the 180th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They robbed the room for Kitan Oladapo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached into another round for Brevyn Spann-Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
