Nobody else had Nick Gargiulo anywhere near the 231st pick. The Patriots did, by 50 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 15th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They talked themselves into Braden Fiske at pick No. 34, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Xavier Worthy at the 46th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Spencer Rattler in Round 3, Pick 4 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Matt Goncalves in slot 103, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Roger Rosengarten in pick 137 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dwight McGlothern in No. 180 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 193. The roster fit checks out.
They reached a country mile for Nick Gargiulo at slot 231, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
