The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, McGlothern at that price is a win they earned.
Owens has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Adding Will Hernandez by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at Round 2, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. A need, and now a little less of one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Johnny Wilson well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
McKinnley Jackson is a better player than pick 137 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a cornerback like Dwight McGlothern reach slot 180 and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid a round early for Tanner McLachlan in the 193rd overall pick, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Tyler Owens, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
