Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent pick 231 on Isaac Rex, a name most had 91 spots down the list.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Brian Thomas Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in pick 68, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tyler Davis in Round 4, Pick 3 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Johnny Wilson higher than slot 137, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid a round early for Delmar Glaze in the 180th overall pick, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Sheridan Jones. A minor itch, scratched.
Isaac Rex in pick No. 231 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
