The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McGlothern. Every board in the league had Wilson lower, and that gap is the story.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Drake Maye and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Franklin at the 34th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Guyton still on the board at Round 2, Pick 15. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 68th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Johnny Wilson at pick 103 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and James Williams was the payoff at pick No. 137. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Dwight McGlothern all the way to slot 180, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Delmar Glaze at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at No. 231 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
