They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Bo Nix is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Proctor.
Reaching for Nix left real value on the table behind him.
Hit on Bo Nix and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection.
They let Terrion Arnold come to them and pounced at the 34th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 68 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at slot 76, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 4, with Javon Baker worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Jones at the 136th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Grayson Murphy at pick 146 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wiley in pick No. 182, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in pick No. 229: Josh Proctor for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
