They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Wiley left real value on the table behind him.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
The board had Troy Fautanu higher than the 34th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Lynn Polk went about where he belonged in the 68th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Trey Benson was the payoff at slot 104. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Jones. The roster fit checks out.
Jared Wiley at No. 182 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 229, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
