The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will need Leveston to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Drake Maye in No. 3; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brian Thomas Jr. at pick No. 34 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kiran Amegadjie at slot 74 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nothing to complain about; Kamren Kinchens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Bucky Irving in the 109th pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dallin Holker at pick 137 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Luke McCaffrey in Round 6, Pick 5 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
KT Leveston at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Dwight McGlothern at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
