The rest of the league will want that one back. Chris Paul Jr. tumbling to the Patriots in slot 220 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The bottom line is a respectable B.
If Grimes pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Luther Burden III in Round 2, Pick 4, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dylan Fairchild slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Omarion Hampton in the 83rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Tyler Warren at the 105th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for LT Overton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Chris Paul Jr. in slot 220 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 223 is the definition of value, full stop. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A big swing on Tony Grimes at pick 241, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
