After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
That Torrence pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Troy Franklin at slot 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Braelon Allen at par in Round 4, Pick 3, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a linebacker like Cedric Gray reach the 137th pick and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Cornelius Johnson at No. 180 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Myles Cole in pick 193; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Ro Torrence all the way to pick No. 231, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
