The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They banked enough surplus on Trotter Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The McCarthy pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

In Round 1, Pick 11 they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 15 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Good price on Adonai Mitchell in the 34th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in slot 35. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

Josh Newton slid further than he should have, and the 137th pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
