The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Williams to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Adonai Mitchell went about where he belonged in the 34th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Patrick Paul at slot 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, McKinnley Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing James Williams in pick 137. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Luke McCaffrey slipping to pick No. 180 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Elijah Jones at the 193rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at Round 7, Pick 11 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
