Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Jones pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They are betting Wilson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Drake Maye at No. 3 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adonai Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 2. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kiran Amegadjie. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Johnny Wilson in the 103rd overall pick, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Mekhi Wingo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jarrian Jones at pick 180 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jared Wiley in pick No. 193 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kalen DeLoach at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
