New England Patriots

Daniels is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a B+.

The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

Torrence at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Raym reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
In slot 24 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 33
Troy Franklin at pick 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in pick No. 35, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 55
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 2: Xavier Worthy for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 70
No edge and no loss on Devontez Walker in the 69th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Benson. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 114
A straight-up fair deal on Matt Goncalves at the 108th pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 122
Theo Johnson at Round 4, Pick 15 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 150
They paid a round early for Dallin Holker in the 137th pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 168
Kamal Hadden in slot 162 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 166
The board had Marist Liufau higher than No. 180, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 183
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Jefferson at the 193rd overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Andrew Raym · C · rank 239
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andrew Raym well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Ro Torrence · CB · rank 177
They will replay Ro Torrence at pick 231 for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
