Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Patriots to leave a draft. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Hudson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
They took Tate Ratledge at par in slot 36, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Dylan Fairchild, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in No. 93, with Billy Bowman Jr. worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ajani Cornelius in the 103rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kobe Hudson in pick 139 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Amari Kight was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Gentry Williams in Round 7, Pick 6. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jason Henderson at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
