If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Getting Hadden where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, with Taliese Fuaga leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Taliese Fuaga went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
J.J. McCarthy at Round 2, Pick 2 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Worthy in No. 50, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kris Jenkins at slot 53 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 68 with a little surplus value in Max Melton. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Brenden Rice in pick No. 104 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land Ben Sinnott in the 136th pick, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Kamal Hadden higher than the Round 6 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A conviction pick on KT Leveston at the 229th pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
