Somebody in pick 231 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Isaiah Williams, the No. 181 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 15th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Dallas Turner at the 34th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Morgan at slot 46. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Lynn Polk. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Renardo Green in pick No. 82. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jalen McMillan at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Roger Rosengarten in pick 137; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Brandon Coleman at Round 6, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 193, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Isaiah Williams in pick No. 231, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
