You build a draft on nights like this. Jaxson Dart had no business being available in the 83rd overall pick, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Roberts has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Emery Jones Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 41st pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Jaxson Dart was still sitting there in No. 83, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jabbar Muhammad is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Value said wait; Jaeden Roberts in the 108th overall pick says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a running back like Ja'Quinden Jackson reach pick No. 124 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Blake Miller in pick 144 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeffrey Bassa in Round 6, Pick 37 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Kamari Wilson in slot 216 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Javontez Spraggins at par in pick 218, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jack Velling at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
