The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Reaching for Lee left real value on the table behind him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing McGlothern that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 2 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Patrick Paul at slot 68 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Javon Baker at pick 71 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mekhi Wingo at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Tommy Eichenberg in the 137th pick, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 180 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They jumped the gun on Tanner McLachlan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Solomon Byrd at slot 226, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Matt Lee at the 231st pick, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
