The Patriots bet big and early on Joe Milton III, 95 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The Rosengarten pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They barely believed it either: Roman Wilson still on the board at slot 68. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Kingsley Suamataia, who had no business lasting to No. 69. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Ainias Smith in pick 136, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Roger Rosengarten at Round 6, Pick 7 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
