After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive. Pearl has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
They took Jordan Morgan at par in No. 34, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Worthy at slot 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Khyree Jackson in the 103rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jamari Thrash at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Tykee Smith was still sitting there in the 180th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Julian Pearl at pick 193 that the board grades a round light. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Magee in Round 7, Pick 11. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
