The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The Gore Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Ladd McConkey in pick No. 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Patrick Paul at par in No. 68, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A clean, defensible pick in the 103rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Brenden Rice. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Dallin Holker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Tip Reiman in Round 6, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Frank Gore Jr.. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Rasheen Ali in the 231st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
