You could see the war room lean forward. Anthony Gould at Round 7, Pick 14 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 15 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kool-Aid McKinstry in Round 2, Pick 2 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Michael Penix Jr. in pick No. 46 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Kamren Kinchens, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Adisa Isaac in the 90th pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Jamari Thrash in slot 137, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Walter Rouse was the payoff at No. 180. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Trente Jones went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 18. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Gould at the 234th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
