Start where it matters. The Patriots took Michael Penix Jr. to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Keegan at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Every board in the league had DeLoach lower, and that gap is the story.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Michael Penix Jr. is a better player than pick No. 23 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chop Robinson in the 34th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in pick 68, with DJ James worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A quiet steal in No. 103: Javon Baker for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
James Williams at the 137th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had Isaiah Davis higher than Round 5, Pick 31, and the running back fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trevor Keegan at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trey Knox at No. 218 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kalen DeLoach in pick 231 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
