For all the boxes ticked, the Patriots skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Getting Taylor-Demerson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting Cohen proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Malik Nabers at the 3rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Keon Coleman higher than No. 34, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Trey Benson in slot 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good price on Blake Fisher in the 104th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Javion Cohen in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Dadrion Taylor-Demerson was still sitting there in pick 182, and they pounced on premier safety value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jalen Berger at the 229th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
