The Bryson Nesbit pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 46 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Etienne value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Jackson a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Cody Simon at pick 105 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Rylie Mills at the 145th pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Kobe Hudson at slot 219 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A big swing on Bryson Nesbit at pick 222, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a running back like Trevor Etienne reach the 240th pick and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
