When a board-topper like Woody Marks slides to the 219th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
With edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting Nesbit proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 1 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in pick 67: Dylan Fairchild for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Deone Walker was the payoff at slot 79. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.

A conviction pick on Bryson Nesbit at the 220th pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jonah Monheim at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
