The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
That Sanders pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

In the 7th pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in pick No. 34. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Keon Coleman at par in slot 38, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 68th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in pick 103, with Khyree Jackson worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Nothing to complain about; Christian Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamal Hadden at Round 6, Pick 5 is the proof. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Steal is underselling it; Dwight McGlothern at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 1, where Ryan Flournoy graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 231 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
