After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Hunt lower, and that gap is the story. Thomas Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. The roster fit checks out.
Brian Thomas Jr. is a better player than the 43rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in pick 68, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in slot 103: Khyree Jackson for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 9 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Jalyx Hunt in No. 137; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Tip Reiman at par in the 180th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 193 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Garret Greenfield at No. 231. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
