After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Landing McGlothern that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
They robbed the room for Olumuyiwa Fashanu here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ladd McConkey at pick No. 38 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Xavier Worthy at pick 68 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Braelon Allen at par in the 103rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Jarrian Jones in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Tip Reiman at Round 6, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Dwight McGlothern in No. 193, plain and simple. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
No drama and no debate, Tylan Grable went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 11. It fills a real need, too.
