After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Pritchett steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They let Quinyon Mitchell come to them and pounced at No. 34. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tight end of that caliber at the 68th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Ruke Orhorhoro in pick No. 72, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Matt Goncalves at pick 103, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Luke McCaffrey in slot 137 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jacob Cowing in the 180th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They read the board right and Malik Mustapha was the payoff at pick 185. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Nehemiah Pritchett in the 193rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Somehow Kendall Milton was still sitting there in No. 231, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
